NSW Symposium

Thank you to all our speakers, event sponsors, attendees and supporters for making the NSW Need to Succeed Symposium a success. With your help we put the issue back on the agenda as the Symposium received strong media coverage including features on ABC’s 7.30 Report, Ten Eyewitness News, the Daily Telegraph and the Sydney Morning Herald.

Highlights of the Symposium

NSW Education Minister, the Hon. Adrian Piccoli’s powerful message that highlighted Australia still has an equity issue with 55% of difference between schools a result of SES;

Gonski review panellists Dr Ken Boston and Kathryn Greiner’s frank and fearless sharing of the Gonski review and suggestions for what we need to do next;

Contributions from Christian Schools Australia and the Catholic Education Office of Parramatta advocating for greater cooperation across school sectors and the implementation of needs-based funding.

Need to Succeed members Chris Bonnor and Bernie Shepherd presented their report Equity in Australian Schooling at the Symposium where they revealed their analysis of NAPLAN data which raises suspicions of a measurable decline of school-to-school equity since the Gonski review’s release. Their full report can be accessed here.
